Tommy Hyland was born in a small town of Massachusetts. In his early age Tommy together with his friends played the 'bounce' – an imitation of a gambling where you had to throw a coin onto the wall, so that they fell on each other. When Hyland was in high school he often betted on sports, and even opened his own mini bookmaker office in his room. After school, Tommy entered college department of political science. Few years later he found out about poker and soon blackjack for the first time.
In early 70s a book of Lawrence Revere 'Playing blackjack as a business' appeared on Tommy Hyland’s table. The game was getting incredibly popular therefore that edition really interested the player. He decided that he would certainly manage to turn the game of blackjack into a source of income by accumulating his knowledge and skills.

In 1978 Tommy came to Atlantic City casino for the first time and became a regular visitor of that establishment. Hyland created a team of like-minded people which he soon called «МIT» to get huge profits. This abbreviation meant Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Tommy and his team friends studied at that time. Since 1979 MIT played in the largest American casinos and used its own Hyland’s method. Tommy offered to monitor a card of the deck before and after the ace emergence. Only in a few months, Hyland and his companions earned 50 thousand dollars that really made a great success.
Since 1987 the entrance of many casinos whose administration was afraid of losing their profits was closed for Hyland’s team. In 1994 MIT participants were accused of fraud, because they had exchanged the signs during one game. However, Arnold Schneider, who as a professional player managed to prove at the court that there was no fraud in an intellectual play of the team. In 1997 MIT fell apart.
