If I had to select one team that impressed me the most so far in the Worlds 2020, it has to be DAMWON Gaming. The squad dominated Group B of the competition and then destroyed DRX in the quarterfinals to reach the last 4.
We all knew that this is one of the favorites, but I’m not sure if anyone thought that DAMWON would be that good. The team has been flawless in terms of macro strategy and always finds the best timing to take objectives or at least prevent the opponent from doing the same.
Controlling the map is another strength of DAMWOON and every player is exceptional from a mechanical standpoint. It’s close to impossible to beat such a team, but let’s not forget that the South Koreans were strong in 2019 as well, before losing to G2 in the quarterfinals.
I must admit I was fooled by G2’s struggles in the early stages and I thought that the team might be out of shape. The reality is that the squad was in one of the toughest groups and we saw the true power of the side in the quarterfinals.
G2 Esports destroyed Gen.G and looked excellent in the process. Caps has been the start of the show, but the rest of the team has stepped up big time as well. We saw strong drafting and phenomenal team fighting, as the highlights below demonstrate.
On the negative side, you can also see how G2 had some problems in the early game. The team can’t afford the same against DAMWOON because the opponent will punish every weakness.

DAMWON Gaming will be hungry to find revenge for losing against G2 last year and I believe that the Koreans have a solid shot at getting it. I’m sure that every League of Legends fan will be watching the clash between Gen.G and G2 Esports on Saturday. Both sides haven’t been on the same level as the big favorites, but they have the talent and experience to fight for the Worlds 2020 title.

Gen.G Analysis
Many saw Group C of the LoL Wolds 2020 as the Group of Death, but Gen.G didn’t have too much trouble. The team lost only one clash against Fnatic and won the other five which was more than enough for the top spot.
The squad started the opening week slowly but the performance in the second one was superb. The mechanics improved and the decision-making was on another level compared to the opposition.
If Gen.G can raise the bar even more in the knockouts, the rest of the field should be scared. The South Koreans have built enough momentum going into the playoffs and they don’t have any obvious weaknesses.
Most of G2’s members were confident that the team could progress to the knockouts and that’s exactly what happened. The problem is that the squad finished second after losing twice against Suning in the second week and that’s not a good sign for the upcoming clashes.

On the other hand, underestimating G2 Esports is never a good idea. That’s the best team in Europe and the second-place finisher from 2019. The squad has been the same for a while now and I won’t be shocked if the performance is much better in the knockouts.

I believe this one is a coin toss and I struggle to pick a winner. Gen.G has been the better team so far in the competition, but let’s not forget how good G2 Esports has been over the years. I won’t be shocked if this one goes the distance and the price of +156 for over 4.5 games looks too high to ignore.
